Useful tips
What should you consider before ordering a custom lampshade?
First of all, the interior style determines what kind of lamp will look good in the room. To do this, the color and shape, as well as the proportional size, must be determined. The spectacular parts of the lamp, i.e. the lamp body and the lampshade, must also harmonize, but a lot can fit into the unique style.
Sizing
There are golden rules that are worth considering.
For table lamps, such a ratio is 60-40, according to which the lamp body is 60% and the lampshade is 40% of the total height of the lamp. This sizing gives our lamp an elegant appearance.
Another rule is that the diameter of the lampshade should be wider than that of the lamp body, i.e. it should have an overhang, ideally twice the width of the lamp body. A disproportionately oversized lampshade should be avoided, because it overwhelms the base, but can even dominate the room.
For floor lamps, consider whether your goal is general lighting, mood lighting or reading corner lighting, because the height needs to be adjusted for this. We recommend lampshades with a larger diameter for floor lamps (with a diameter of over 30 cm).
The size and height of dining room lamps should be determined by the size of the table, so that you don't hit your head, but the light shouldn't shine into your eyes either. In the case of a long table or bar counter, a multi-bulb (multi-shade) solution is the most advantageous.
For ceiling lamps, the room's height and size will be the determining factor. There can be one large or several, smaller light fixtures distributed throughout the room. For this purpose, it is worth choosing from shades with a wider diameter (50 - 70 cm), but a multi-level shade can also achieve a spectacular effect if the layers are covered with different colors and patterns. It is worth using a diffuser for a more pleasant light distribution.
Shape
You can also play with the shape of the lampshade, but keep usability in mind. If a drum-shaped lampshade doesn't fit next to the wall, choose a narrower, oval or square one. The harmony of the shape of the lamp and the shade is also important; curved, feminine bases are more suited to drum and empire shapes, while more angular bases are suited to brick or rounded brick shapes, but the pattern of the lampshade can also make a difference.
Colors
When choosing colors, pay attention to the color scheme of other furnishings in the apartment, but also to functionality. Brightness is influenced by light and dark colors (as well as certain types of materials), so it makes a big difference whether you are planning to buy a lamp for a reading corner or a bedroom. You don't have to be afraid of colors, they bring life to the room, and you can even create a very special effect with a so-called statement piece. You can also use a plain-colored lampshade, for example, if the inside of the lampshade is patterned, because when you turn on the lamp, this can create a special light effect. When building or renovating a house, it often happens that there is leftover material from curtains or upholstery, so don't throw it away. You can make a beautiful lampshade out of it or other accessories, such as decorative pillows, thus creating harmony between the textiles. Keep in mind that not all materials are suitable for making lampshades, so if the buyer has such an idea, it should be discussed in advance.
Accessories
Trimmings, fringe, pom-pom trim or solid-color fabric trim can add drama, but be aware that this type of finish may not suit every interior. Tassels can add a touch of boldness, playfulness or boudoir to a space, but be careful not to make it look old-fashioned. Pom-pom fringes are charming and can be incorporated into a child's room, romantic bedroom or shabby chic interior.
